asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what percentage of the total value of National Savings are held by surtax payers; and what percentage of surtax payers hold National Savings.

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the average annual cost of administering an account in the National Savings Bank for the most recent convenient period.

The average cost of administering an Ordinary account for the year ended 31st March, 1969 was approximately 19s. 10d. (the average balance in an account was £74).

For the same period, the average cost of administering an investment account was £1 0s. 8d. (the average balance in an account was £412).

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the number of separate accounts currently maintained in the National Savings Bank showing the number with a credit balance of less than £10, £10 to £20, £20 to £50, £50 to £100, £100 to £500, and over £500, respectively.
