HC Deb 19 February 1970 vol 796 cc164-5W
48. Mr. Edwin Wainwright

asked the Secretary of State for Employment and Productivity how many men, women, boys and girls, respectively, were registered as unemployed at the Mexborough and Wombwell Employment Exchanges at the latest available date; what were the corresponding figures for 12 months ago; and what steps she is taking to reduce the numbers.

Mr. Harold Walker

At 9th February, 1970, 1,410 men, 218 women, 69 boys and 35 girls were registered as unemployed in the area covered by the Mexborough and Wombwell Employment Exchanges. The corresponding figures for 10th February, 1969, were 1,397, 223, 53 and 33. The figures for February, 1970 are provisional. My local officers are continuing their efforts to help those unemployed to find suitable work, including the offer of training opportunities where appropriate.
