§ Mr. Chichester-Clarkasked the Minister of Public Building and Works what progress has been made in implementing the Report of the Committee on the Application of Computers in the Construction Industry; and what is his policy regarding its Report.
§ Mr. LoughlinThe committee's work is of a continuing nature. A number of reports on particular aspects have been published—I will send the hon. Member details—and more are expected. The main areas of progress are:
- (1) development of GENESYS, a general computer system for structural engineers;
- (2) proposals for a rational information system for construction;
- (3) discussions on the use of computers by contractors.
Work is also proceeding in the architectual, quantity surveying and services engineering fields.
155WI look to the committee to keep under review the possibilities of using computers in construction and to recommend co-ordinated action to expand the application of existing knowledge and make possible further advances.
