HC Deb 17 February 1970 vol 796 c78W
Mr. Randall

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government what has been the net number of applications received by the rent officer for Gateshead under the Rent Act, the number of determinations made for reductions, increases and no changes, respectively, and the number of cases awaiting decision.

Mr. Denis Howell

From 1st March 1966 to 6th February, 1970 the rent officer for Gateshead County Borough had received a net total of 839 applications for registration of fair rents. 833 of these had been determined and six cases were awaiting decision.

Determinations of registered rents are analysed by computer. Analysis of 552 decisions, for which case records had reached the computer up to the end of December 1969, and where the bases on which the registered rents were assessed were comparable with those on which previous rents rested, shows that previous rents were reduced in 185 cases, increased in 319 and unchanged in 48.
