HC Deb 17 February 1970 vol 796 cc73-4W
Mr. William Edwards

asked the Minister of Transport what is the total subsidy paid to enable railway lines to remain in operation in Mid-Wales under the Transport Act 1969; and what other subsidies are paid from public funds.

Mr. Murray

In 1970 my right hon. Friend will be paying £970,000, under Section 39 of the Transport Act 1968, in grant-aid for three unremunerative railway passenger services operating in Mid-Wales—£370,000 for Swansea-Shrewsbury, £361,000 for Shrewsbury-Aberystwyth and £239,000 for Machynlleth-Pwllheli. I am not aware of any other grants from public funds in respect of services in this area.
