HC Deb 17 February 1970 vol 796 c64W
60. Sir J. Langford-Holt

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is his estimate of the purchasing power in 1975, compared with today, of the 25s. repaid on a £1 National Savings Certificate bought in 1970 on the basis that the rate of decline in the value of the sterling will remain the same as between 1965 and 1970; and if he will give savers further incentive in real terms.

Mr. William Rodgers

I see no value in making hypothetical calculations about future changes in the purchasing power of sterling. My right hon. Friend has no proposals to make at present.
