HC Deb 17 February 1970 vol 796 c90W
86. Mr. Tilney

asked the Secretary of State for Local Government and Regional Planning whether, in view of the fact that the refusal by Her Majesty's Government to grant financial help to Liverpool Airport for new terminal buildings and to improve facilities for the handling of freight will damage the economic growth potential of Merseyside, Her Majesty's Government will take steps to improve the communications and amenities of Merseyside.

Mr. Urwin

I do not accept that the refusal to grant financial help to Liverpool Airport will hamper the economic growth of Merseyside.

There is every sign that the economy of the area is responding favourably to the considerable improvements already being made to its communications and amenities.
