Mr. Carol Johnson

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what provisions will be included in the new Army pay structure in relation to housing accommodation, travelling allowances and London weighting; what effect the new proposals will have on the tax liability of service personnel; and what steps he proposes to take to ensure that such personnel will not suffer adversely under the new pay structure.

I cannot anticipate the statement on the pay of the armed forces which my right hon. Friend hopes to make to the House shortly.
