HC Deb 16 February 1970 vol 796 c42W
Mr. Richard Wainwright

asked the Secretary of State for Local Government and Regional Planning what advice he received from the Yorkshire and Humberside Economic Planning Council and Board as to whether part of the West Riding should become a metropolitan area.

Mr. Crosland

I was advised that there was a substantial body of opinion amongst Council members that the West Yorkshire conurbation would best be served by establishing it as a metropolitan authority.
