HL Deb 12 February 1970 vol 307 cc1061-2WA
LORD WYNNE-JONES

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they have any statement to make about the extension of the territorial scope of the Commonwealth Development Corporation's activities following the passage of the Overseas Resources Development Act 1969.

BARONESS LLEWELYN-DAVIES OF HASTOE

I am grateful for this opportunity to inform your Lordships that my right honourable friend the Minister of Overseas Development has given approval for the Corporation to undertake activities in Ethiopia and the Federal Republic of Cameroon, subject to consultation with her Ministry as to the scale and content of the Corporation's intended investment programme in these countries. She has also agreed that the Commonwealth Development Corporation, as consultants to the World Bank, may carry out feasibility studies on behalf of the Bank in developing countries, including some non-Commonwealth countries where they are not otherwise authorised to function. This consultancy work for the World Bank will not involve any cost to the Corporation.

House adjourned at twenty-seven minutes before six o'clock.
