§ 55. Mr. Roebuckasked the Secretary of State for Defence what consideration he has given to the communication of the hon. Member for Harrow, East, about the desirability of publishing in the OFFICIAL REPORT a table showing the numbers of aliens and Commonwealth citizens in each of the services; and whether he will make a statement.
§ Mr. HattersleyI have written to my hon. Friend. To produce the figures he asks for would require examination of approaching 400,000 records. Entry into the Forces is subject to nationality rules which are broadly the same as those for civil servants in the Ministry of Defence as announced by the Prime Minister to the House on 10th November, 1964. These, and the waivers which my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State may exercise, provide adequate opportunity for Commonwealth subjects to join the Forces.—[Vol. 701, c.39–42.]
