HC Deb 09 February 1970 vol 795 c259W
93. Earl of Dalkeith

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what investigations he is making into the connection between lung cancer and sulphur dioxide in the atmosphere resulting from petrol fumes and coal smoke; and whether he will make a statement.

Mr. Fowler

The Medical Research Council's Air Pollution Unit is investigating the possibility of a link between lung cancer and air pollution. During the course of these studies no evidence has been adduced to support any connection between lung cancer and sulphur dioxide in the atmosphere.
