HC Deb 05 February 1970 vol 795 cc181-2W
Mr. Oakes

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what representations he has received on the effects of the Gaming Act, 1968, on small bridge clubs; and if he will introduce legislation to exempt them from the provisions of the Act.

Mr. Elystan Morgan

If contract bridge is played for winnings in a proprietary club after 1st July, 1970, the club will need a licence under the Gaming Act to allow table money to be charged. Representations have been made that this procedure is too cumbersome and the fees too large for small clubs. My right hon. Friend is studying these objections.
