HC Deb 18 December 1970 vol 808 c477W
Dr. Glyn

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he is aware of the dangers resulting from the fall of material, and in particular building debris, from uncovered lorries using major road routes; and whether he will consider making it compulsory for such vehicles to be covered during transit.

Mr. Peyton

The law already requires lorry loads to be so secured so that they will not fall off. There are over 6,000 successful prosecutions a year for loading offences. The mere fact that a lorry is sheeted may conceal dangers in the way it is loaded.
