HC Deb 18 December 1970 vol 808 cc507-8W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry whether he is aware that the industrial dispute in the electricity supply industry has shown that, in national emergencies such as this, the various functions for which his Department is responsible, such as the general maintenance of trade and industry, have difficulty in being performed; and whether he will set up an emergency committee to prepare ways and means to ensure the satisfactory working of the services fully within the control of his Department during such emergencies.

Sir J. Eden

No doubt, all concerned will be re-examining their arrangements in the light of recent experience, and I do not consider that new machinery of the kind suggested would help identify any improvements that may be necessary.
