HC Deb 16 December 1970 vol 808 cc382-3W
Mr. Dell

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what action he proposes to take to avoid an increase in unemployment on Merseyside arising out of the redundancy announced at the Cadbury-Schweppes plant at Moreton, Cheshire.

Mr. Dudley Smith

As Cadbury Schweppes hope to phase the proposed run down throughout 1971 the problem of redeployment facing those affected should be substantially eased. My right hon. Friend does not, therefore, expect a significant rise in the level of unemployment on Merseyside as a result.

My Department's Employment Services are ready to give every assistance to those involved, including special approaches to other local employers.
