HC Deb 16 December 1970 vol 808 c384W
Mr. MacArthur

asked the Lord Advocate if he will make a statement about the future of the Law Reform Committee for Scotland.

The Lord Advocate

As things have developed since the establishment of the Scottish Law Commission, it has, in my view, become clear that there is now no need in Scotland for a second standing body charged with responsibilities for law reform. In these circumstances I have decided, after appropriate consultation, that the Law Reform Committee for Scotland now serves no useful purpose and should be dissolved.

The Chairman and members of the Committee have been informed of my decision, and I have expressed to them my gratitude for the very important contribution to law reform which the Committee has made over the years.
