§ 25. Mr. John Pageasked the Secretary of State for Employment whether he will consider representations about the future of industrial training boards from individual firms and associations in connection with his proposed review.
§ Mr. BryanYes. I shall consider any such representations before reaching a decision on future policy for industrial training.
§ 33. Mr. Normantonasked the Secretary of State for Employment when he expects to complete his review of the working of the industrial training boards.
§ 41. Mrs. Castleasked the Secretary of State for Employment whether, in his review of the work of industrial training boards, he will ensure that there is no weakening of the rôle of trade unions in the work of the boards.
§ Mr. BryanMy right hon. Friend will certainly want to ensure that trade unions continue to be closely associated with industrial training at all levels.
§ 42. Mrs. Castleasked the Secretary of State for Employment when he intends to set up an industrial training board for banking, insurance and finance.
§ Mr. BryanMy right hon. Friend is deferring a decision on this until he has considered the findings of my Department's review of the work of industrial training boards.
§ 56. Mr. Wilkinsonasked the Secretary of State for Employment when his Department plans to complete its examination of the future of the industrial training boards; and whether he will authorise substantial reductions in levies from wool textile firms to the Wool Industry Training Board in the interim.
§ Mr. BryanAs my right hon. Friend said in the House on 12th November, the Department's review of the work of industrial training boards should be completed early next year.
147WThe Wool, Jute and Flax Industry Training Board's levy will be required to pay grants to firms in respect of training which they have already carried out. My right hon. Friend does not, therefore, consider that reductions in levy at this juncture would be appropriate.
§ 59. Mr. Wilkinsonasked the Secretary of State for Employment whether he will request the industrial training boards to publish separate statistics in their annual reports for the number of male and female trainees for each category of employment.
§ 60. Mr. Edward Lyonsasked the Secretary of State for Employment whether he will request industrial training boards in their annual reports to indicate the number of trainees who are of the female sex.
§ Mr. BryanThe attention of the boards has been drawn in the past to the desirability of maintaining information about male and female trainees separately. It would not be appropriate for my right hon. Friend to attempt to direct the activities of the Board in detail.
