HC Deb 10 December 1970 vol 808 cc183-4W
Mr. Money

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what arrangements have been made for the further measures of assistance to tourism in development areas which Her Majesty's Government propose to introduce.

Mr. John Davies

The Government's measures to help the development areas will include the provision of funds for the selective assistance to individual tourist projects in those areas under the provisions of Section 4 of the Development of Tourism Act, 1969. The national tourist boards will be responsible for the administration of this form of assistance. Subject to Parliamentary approval £1 million will be provided annually for this purpose. For the first year, 1971–72, I have agreed with my right hon. Friends, the Secretaries of State for Scotland and Wales, that the allocations should be:

  • £500,000 to the English Tourist Board;
  • £300,000 to the Scottish Tourist Board;
  • £200,000 to the Wales Tourist Board.
