§ Mr. Kilfedderasked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he will seek powers to augment the money allotted for unemployment winter relief 142W schemes by payments out of the National Insurance Fund equivalent to the amount saved by way of unemployment benefit.
§ Mr. DeanIn regard to the authorisation of a winter programme of essential works, I would refer my hon. Friend to the reply given by my hon. Friend the Minister for Local Government and Development on 9th November. The Government's view is based on the merits of the question and these would not be altered by meeting the cost partly out of national insurance contributions.—[Vol. 806, c.67.]
