§ LORD ALLERTONasked Her Majesty's Government:
Why the Forestry Commission have first planted thousands of hardwood trees and then poisoned them.
EARL ST. ALDWYNThe Forestry Commission have used selective herbicides930WA to kill immature hardwood trees in a number of plantations where, in the light of later experience, softwoods had a better potential. For amenity reasons this policy was suspended a year ago throughout the Commission; and in any case it will not be resumed in areas where amenity is important.
House adjourned at eighteen minutes past nine o'clock.
