HC Deb 08 December 1970 vol 808 c106W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Minister for the Civil Service whether he will cease the payment of £6 10s. per day and night subsistence allowance now paid to Ministers and the higher paid civil servants when away from home on public business and put these public servants on the same basis as Members of Parliament.

Mr. David Howell

They are already on the same basis. A Member of Parliament engaged on the business of the House in a place away from London and his constituency is paid the same subsistence allowance for 24 hours (£5 10s.) as a London based Minister or senior civil servant undertaking official duties away from his normal place of work.
