Mr. Gwynoro Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Wales (1) how much money has been allocated in the firm or forward programme for motorways in Wales in 1970–71 and very year thereafter to 1974–75; and how this differs from the previous projections;

(2) what will be the expenditure in principal roads in Wales in each year from 1970–71 to 1974–75; and how this differs from the previous projections;

(3) how much money has been allocated in the firm or forward programme for trunk roads in Wales in 1970–71 and each year thereafter to 1974–75; and how this differs from previous projections.

The allocation for new construction, improvement and maintenance is:

No reduction has been made in these years for works on motorways and trunk roads. The figures for principal roads have been reduced by about £0.3 million in the years 1971–72 and 1974–75.

The planned level of expenditure for the years 1972–73 and 1973–74 is now being reviewed and will be covered by a future White Paper.

Reductions of about £0.2 million have been made on the earlier figures for 1971–72 and 1974–75.
