HC Deb 04 December 1970 vol 807 cc478-9W
Mr. James Hamilton

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland (1) if he is aware that there is only one Justice of the Peace in Chapelhall, Lanarkshire, with a population of 4,000 to 5,000 people; and whether he will make arrangements to have another one appointed;

(2) if he is aware that there is no Justice of the Peace in Bargeddie, Lanarkshire; and whether he will make the necessary arrangements to have one appointed.

Mr. Gordon Campbell

I am advised on the appointment of Justices of the Peace by local committees whom I appoint and who keep under review the need for Justices in their areas. I am making inquiries as to the current position in Chapelhall and Bargeddie and will write to the hon. Member.
