§ Mr. Muddasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what financial provision has been made for winter relief in 1970–71 for the South-West Regional Development Area; and what sums were respectively allocated for the years 1965–66, 1966–67, 1967–68, 1968–69 and 1969–70.
§ Mr. Michael HeseltineAs part of the measures announced on 27th October, the development areas will benefit from extended assistance under the Local Employment Acts, which is estimated to build up to £25 million annually; and this will go ahead without delay in order to provide a stimulus to employment in the period immediately ahead. No separate provision has been made for a winter relief programme.
In 1967–68 the previous Government mounted a winter works programme in all the development areas. Detailed records are not available of the amount spent in the South-West. The South-West was not included in the programmes for 1968–69 and 1969–70.
