HC Deb 01 December 1970 vol 807 cc330-1W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether, in view of the Government's decision to increase the pay of the higher paid civil servants by 43 per cent., he will give the reasons why he will not take steps to increase all social security benefits by 43 per cent.

Mr. Dean

No Government has ever accepted such comparisons as the basis for determining the levels of social security benefits.
