HC Deb 30 April 1970 vol 800 cc385-6W
67. Mr. Stainton

asked the Minister of Technology whether he is aware that Imperial Chemical Industries, Shellstar and Fisons propose a rationalisation of the United Kingdom fertiliser industry; whether he will refer the matter to the Monopolies Commission, with a view to safeguarding the price and quality choice available to the farmer by prohibiting any cartel or similar arrangement; and whether he will make a statement on his policy regarding the fertiliser industry.

Dr. Ernest A. Davies:

We are aware that fertiliser manufacturers are considering what steps might be taken to improve the efficiency of distribution, and when they formulate proposals the Government will consider what action if any should be taken. Our policy is to promote a healthy industry serving the needs of its customers as efficiently and cheaply as possible.
