asked Her Majesty's Government:

What is the amount received annually in the repayment of debts by developing countries; what is the value annually of the purchase of goods in Britain by these countries in return for aid; and what is the amount received from these countries in profits, dividends and interest by British companies and individuals arising from investment.

Average figures for the calendar years 1966 to 1969 were as follows:—

Repayments £ 31 million
Fully tied bilateral financial aid £ 56 million
Remittances of earnings on direct investments (excluding oil) £ 75 million (for 1966–68 only).
