HC Deb 28 April 1970 vol 800 cc289-90W
Mr. Brooks

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is his estimate of the amount of tax evasion which takes place in the United Kingdom, expressed as a proportion of the revenue derived from all taxation annually; and whether he will publish in the OFFICIAL REPORT the comparable figures for each of the member states of the European Economic Community, from information available to him from international sources.

Mr. Taverne

The nature of tax evasion makes it impossible to give a precise estimate, but I believe the extent of evasion to be small. I am not aware of any estimates of tax evasion in the countries of the European Economic Community.
