HC Deb 27 April 1970 vol 800 cc214-5W
Mr. David Mitchell

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether, under his regulations, strikers' wives are able to claim social security benefit in respect of house mortgage repayments payable on a weekly basis and due for payment during the period of a strike.

Mr. O'Malley:

Where a claimant is the owner-occupier of a house on which he holds a mortgage, the interest payable, but not repayment of capital, is taken into account when calculating his supplementary benefit. If the husband is on strike, the interest is similarly taken into account when calculating the benefit payable to his dependants.
