HC Deb 27 April 1970 vol 800 cc250-1W
Mr. Wall

asked the Attorney-General if he will take steps, by legislation or otherwise, to grant competence to all persons appointed to the Bench in Rhodesia to deal with cases in the field of divorce, probate and commercial law, so that the decisions of the courts there may be valid in other countries.

Mr. Foley:

I have been asked to reply.

No. The validity in this country of decisions given or purporting to have been given by courts in Southern Rhodesia is a matter which falls to be considered by the courts in this country in the normal way. Various problems can and do arise in connection with the recognition outside Southern Rhodesia of such decisions given there, but it would not be appropriate to deal with these generally in the manner suggested.
