HC Deb 23 April 1970 vol 800 cc145-6W
51. Mr. Roebuck

asked the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications what studies he has made of the feasibility of the radio transmission of newspapers in the United Kingdom into homes and offices on the lines of recent experiments in the United States of America and Japan, details of which are in his possession; and whether he will make a statement.

Mr. Stonehouse:

I understand from the Post Office that this is only one of a series of new technical developments in local telecommunications which is under general study. I am advised that market research into customer needs for this service will be undertaken when sufficient need can be foreseen. This is not expected in the near future as heavy costs are likely to be involved in providing distribution facilities and customers' installations. I shall keep watch on developments.
