asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how many students were admitted to colleges of education in Wales and England, respectively, in 1969; and if he will express the numbers as a proportion of the populations.

Mr. Fowler:

Provisional figures of non-graduate students admitted to initial training courses in colleges of education and departments of education in technical colleges in Wales and England, respectively, in 1969 were 2,152 and 35,873. Expressed as a precentage of the total population of Wales and England, the numbers were .079 per cent. and.078 per cent. respectively.
