HL Deb 21 April 1970 vol 309 c708WA
LORD TREFGARNE

asked Her Majesty's Government:

  1. (i) What is the function of the R.A.F. installation at Biggin Hill;
  2. (ii) What is the annual cost of maintaining these facilities?

LORD WINTERBOTTOM

The main function at Biggin Hill is carried out by the Officers and Aircrew Selection Centre whose task is to assess the suitability of candidates, both internal and external, for Royal Air Force service as officers and aircrew. It also carries out certain selection work for aircrew candidates for the Royal Navy and the Army.

The station also administers 192 married quarters maintained there for the use of the staff of the Officers and Aircrew Selection Centre itself and R.A.F. personnel at Ministry of Defence Headquarters.

The latest annual cost of maintaining these facilities is £1 million, including costs of maintenance, et cetera, borne on Ministry of Public Building and Works Votes.

House adjourned at fourteen minutes past seven o'clock.
