§ Mr. Monroasked the Minister of Transport how many pedestrian crossings have been treated with Shellgrip antiskid material; what is the percentage drop in accidents at these crossings; and if he will make a statement on their future use.
Mr. Bob Brown:Up to January, 1970, the Greater London Council has treated the approaches to 20 pedestrian crossings in London with an anti-skid material known as " Shellgrip ". Preliminary results show an overall reduction in accidents of some 60 per cent. This material is more costly than normal surfacing but these results are very encouraging. We are watching these and other experiments with the material closely.
