HC Deb 16 April 1970 vol 799 c281W
Mr. Edwin Wainwright

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what steps he is taking, following the recent visit of the Under-Secretary of State, to ensure that the deficiencies existing in several departments at the Mexborough Montagu Hospital will be brought up to standard.

Dr. John Dunwoody

I would refer my hon. Friend to my reply to him on 2nd March, 1970. Any significant improvement to Montagu Hospital would involve a major scheme with extensive and costly building operations which would be difficult because of the congested nature of the site. Until the effect of the proposed new hospital at Rotherham has been assessed the Sheffield Regional Hospital Board would not feel justified in considering, as finances permit, more than minor improvements to Montagu Hospital. Over £60,000 has been spent on such improvements since 1948.—[Vol 797, c.12.]
