Mr. Kitson

asked the Minister of Transport when it is intended to start work on the bypass of the village of Bowes on the A66; what will be the cost; and when it is expected that work will be completed.

This scheme is in course of preparation but has not yet reached the stage at which its inclusion in the firm road programme can be considered. No definite starting date can therefore be given. The scheme would take about two years to complete and the cost is provisionally estimated at £545,000.
