(2) what decision has been made on the siting of a district general hospital for the Yarmouth-Lowestoft area; when it is to be built; and if he will make a statement.
§ 53. Mr. Priorasked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he will now make a further statement about the provision of a new hospital for the coastal region including Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft.
§ Mr. CrossmanNo decisions have yet been taken on the Bonham-Carter Report, but I am glad to have this opportunity to allay the misapprehension in the Yarmouth and Lowestoft area concerning the East Anglian Regional Hospital Board's plans for the future provision of hospital services. I understand that the Board intends to provide a district general hospital for Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft on a site on the coast which would serve this area effectively. It is not yet possible to state when this provision will be made or which site will be selected. When the Board has considered the requirement further there will be local consultations concerning the proposal, including the site to be used. The Board envisage, that these facilities will replace the service provided by most, if not all, the existing hospitals in Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft, but this will be a matter for consideration later.
