§ 64. Mr. Roebuck
asked the Secretary of State for Defence whether he will give 119W details of the equipment and services provided for the former Royal Rhodesian Air Force to which reference is made on page 129 of the Defence Accounts 1968–69; how much of the loan in connection with these items is outstanding; and whether he will make a statement.
§ Mr. John Morris
The sum of £918,409 which appeared in the 1968–69 Defence Accounts as a loan outstanding is in respect of Hunter aircraft and associated ground equipment and spares supplied to the then Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland. The total value of these supplies agreed in 1961 together with Canberra supplies agreed in 1957 was £3.8 million and the sum of £918,409 was the amount outstanding in 1966 when, as a response to the imposition of financial and economic sanctions, the illegal régime refused to make further payments.
