§ Mrs. Renée Shortasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what request he has had from the Australian Government to make inquiries on their behalf into the disappearance in China of Mr. Francis James, the Australian publisher; what action he has taken; and what was the result.
§ Mr. FoleyAt the request of the Australian Government, we instructed our Mission in Peking to send a note to the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 22nd January asking for any information which the Chinese authorities may have on Mr. James' present whereabouts. A further note was sent on 3rd April. So far we have had no reply.
