Mr. Arthur Pearson

asked the Secretary of State for Wales if he will name the firm of contractors to which has been allocated the contract for the second section of the Cardiff to Merthyr trunk road; and if he will give the reasons for the delay in letting out this contract.

The contract is about to be let, but until the formalities are completed I cannot yet name the contractor. The contract was not let earlier because at a late stage it became possible to reduce the cost by introducing a variation. This has required more time than is normally taken for the letting of a contract.
