HC Deb 07 April 1970 vol 799 cc48-9W
54. Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he is aware that recent official figures show that beef now costs 86 per cent. more on the Continent, that veal is 43 per cent. more, that the price of lamb is 155 per cent. higher and that mutton costs 178 per cent. more; and whether when giving his recent estimate of the costs of Great Britain's entry into the Common Market these prices were taken into account.

Mr. Hoy

The estimated effect on food prices was fully taken into account in the Government's recent assessment of the economic implications of United Kingdom accession to the E.E.C. (Cmnd. Paper 4289) which gave representative quotations of retail prices for meat in the United Kingdom and the E.E.C. There have been no significant changes in the basis of this estimate since then.
