§ Mr. Leslie Huckfieldasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what part agricultural research for which his Department is responsible has played in increasing the average milk yield.
§ Mr. FowlerAgricultural research has played a significant part in increasing milk yields from just over 600 gallons per cow per year twenty years ago to over 800 gallons now. In the debate on 21st July a figure of 1,000 gallons was mentioned. This is a herd average achieved by many well run herds, but is inaccurate as an expression of the national average milk yields.
