§ Mr. Merlyn ReesThe equipment being disposed of consists mainly of items such as uniforms and vehicles which are surplus to requirements following the disbandment of the Civil Defence Corps and the Auxiliary Fire Service. The categories being retained are items of operational value in war, some of which are also of use in peace-time emergencies. The original cost of the surplus equipment less depreciation where appropriate, was £11.5 million for England and Wales. The total proceeds of sale cannot yet be estimated.
