HC Deb 20 November 1969 vol 791 c365W
91. Mr. Roebuckan

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether he will give assurance that in any negotiations on Her Majesty's Government's application to join the European Economic Community, the United Kingdom will retain the right to place in quarantine animals imported into the United Kingdom as a safeguard against rabies becoming endemic in the United Kingdom.

Mr. Foley

Since there is nothing in existing European Economic Community arrangements to prevent individual member countries from taking appropriate measures of protection against this disease, the question does not arise.
