Mr. Hugh Jenkins

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government whether he will seek powers to control rents charged by local authorities in cases of transfer.

There is at present no control over rent increases which occur when a local authority house is relet to an incoming tenant, and the Rent (Control of Increases) Bill does not include a power to exercise such a control.
