§ 57. Miss Devlinasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what further steps have been taken to implement the agreement with the Northern Ireland Government on repealing legislation inhibiting basic human liberties, namely, the Civil Authorities (Special Powers) Acts (Northern Ireland) 1922 and 1933, the Emergency Powers Act (Northern Ireland) 1926 and the Flags and Emblems (Display) Act (Northern Ireland) 1954.
§ Mr. CallaghanThe Northern Ireland Government have stated their intention to remove the powers in the Special Powers Acts that are in conflict with international obligations as soon as this can be done without undue hazard, and the matter is kept under review between the two Governments. Similar considerations do not arise in respect of the other Acts mentioned by the hon. Member.
