HC Deb 12 November 1969 vol 791 cc102-3W
Mr. William Hamilton

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what disciplinary action has been taken against the naval officer in H.M.S. "Malcolm" who used his ship's orders of the day for party political purposes; and what steps he has taken to prevent a recurrence of this behaviour.

Dr. David Owen

I am satisfied that this incident, which the ship's company did not take seriously, had no political significance. The officer responsible now realises that his facetious gesture was ill-advised and he has been warned against any repetition. Naval personnel are well aware that under Queen's Regulations they can take no active part in politics.
