HC Deb 12 November 1969 vol 791 cc109-10W
89. Mr. James Davidson

asked the Minister of Transport why, in the deployment of the Government's efforts to bring a major engineering firm to Inverurie to provide employment for those men made redundant by the closure of the British Railways workshops, there was no closing date put on the offer to the firm concerned.

Mr. Murray

Although the Government sponsored the special campaign to attract new industry to Inverurie, negotiations for the sale of the workshops have been the responsibility of the British Railways Board, which has acted throughout in co-operation with Government Departments. I understand the Board, did, in fact, impose a closing date as soon as a firm alternative proposition emerged.
