§ 70. Mr. Gowerasked the Secretary of State for Wales if he will state, giving the mileage in respect of each, those motorways or lengths of motorway, for which no line had yet been proposed, a draft scheme had been published, a scheme had been made, tenders had been invited, a contract had been placed, which were under construction and which were in use, respectively, as at 31st October.
§ Mr. George ThomasThe position is as it was when I replied to the hon. Member on 6th May. In July I announced the addition of 10 major trunk road schemes to the preparation pool, including about 12 miles of dual carriageway all-purpose trunk road.—[Vol. 783, col. 59.]
§ 71. Mr. Gowerasked the Secretary of State for Wales what proportion of all the motorway now completed in the United Kingdom is within the geographical boundaries of Wales; and what proportion of the total motorway planned for completion by the end of 1975 will be within the boundaries of Wales.
§ Mr. George ThomasOn firm plans for trunk road motorways 3.4 per cent. and 2.1 per cent. respectively. The 1975 figure reflects the emphasis given in the Welsh road programme to all-purpose trunk roads as my reply on 4th November to my hon. Friend the Member for Rhondda, West (Mr. Alec Jones) showed.— [Vol. 790, c. 123–4.]
